French Placement
FRENCH PLACEMENT
CUTOFF SCORES AND PLACEMENT MESSAGES FOR 2025-2026
Placement into the French courses is based on the student's score on the French Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement messages are derived in collaboration with the French Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2025, Fall 2025, or Spring 2026.
The online French Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (placing into fourth level or higher) are invited to attempt the French Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester.

| 76 - 89 | Placed into FR 205 or FR 207; consult with the French Department's Undergraduate Advisor about other 200-level courses.1 |
